Hissy fit at The Warehouse
I had a hissy fit in the Warehouse this week. I’d gone there to buy Coverseal for my kids books. As the assistant started to ring up my children’s choices, I realised that the 1 metre packs were $4.99 each. I stood there and said: That’s daylight robbery, to the embarrassment of my children and the shop assistant. After what seemed like an age wondering what to do, I decided not to buy the stuff. We walked around the corner in the mall and my daughter got the same brand of Coverseal from Whitcoulls for $3.29 a roll, still a rip-off, and my son got his from the $2 shop. It just shows that it’s never a good idea to assume prices are cheap.
I for one have had a gutsful of The Warehouse. The goods are shoddy, the prices are not cheap, and it is always such a mess that people think nothing of leaving stuff on the ground even if they dropped it.
As for embarrassing the kids, I do it in every shop where I think the prices are extortionate, and have no problem at all in refusing to pay/saying I won’t take whatever it is.
NZ seems to have been happy to run with paying well over the odds for second-rate stuff in the last few decades, and now it’s a shock rather than expectation when something actually lasts.
Rant over.
for now.
what annoys me at the Warehouse is the state of the shelving units…particular those in the craft or small goods. You find something that looks appealing – then you discover it is:
broken
pack ripped open
things missing
on inquiring about better stock you are informed they are either
too busy to look
or we don’t have anything left
I haven’t actually been to my local one for ages but the one in Downtown is usually just as bad…
